I was evicted and the day I was visited by the sheriff he left and seven people moved my things out onto the street. One of them was seen loading his vehicle with my tools and other items. I was allowed to go back to get my things but then they kicked me out because they got angry. They did not allow me to get the rest of my things and now I don’t know if they are still there. I can’t afford a attorney and the free legal place told me they could not help. What can I do Related posts:

You can file a complaint with the RPA, if you wish. However if you were legally evicted through the court system, all they will be able to do is verify that things were done legally. If you required the landlord to go through the court system to get you out– you probably have whats coming to you. It shouldn’t be a surprise! This could have been peacefully worked out, but it appears you required the landlord no other option. [Reply] |

Anyone can be sued over anything. However, based on the details provided– it sounds like the landlord did the legal thing. So I don’t think you have a case. [Reply] |

I forgot to mention, that your landlord is required to legally store your items for at least 30 days. You have right to your belongings as long as you pay the landlord the amounts owed. If the landlord does store your belongings, he will also be able to tack on storage and moving cost. It’s always best to deal with the situation before it gets to this point. I know how the legal system works, you were very aware of the eviction BEFORE the Sherrif came out. You might want to be slightly more responsible in the future. I know people fall on hard times, but that has nothing to do with your ability to work things out before they become a crisis. [Reply] |
