Roommate Problem

IL General Topics, Renter Q & A

My daughter signed a lease with a friend. Due to Friends activities the golden roommate turned into a major roommate problem.  My daughter has moved out and we are working with realtor/landlord to sublet.

Problem:
Friend has someone living in appartemnet now.
My daughters personal affects/room have been moved around and used.
We notified realtor but even though it is against lease to have anyone else living there they are not willing to do anything.
House is a mess so tyring to sublet is impossible.

Your daughter has right to remove her belongings. I would suggest that you immediately go over to the unit and move her personal belongings out. If you have a problem, call the local police department and they will escort you while your daughter moves.

If it were me, I would try to get the person that moved in to take over the lease. If they don’t, I would start the eviction process. (most likely your roommate has breached the contract if they allowed someone to live there without signing a lease)
