I started getting sick 4 months ago.  It started very ordinary.  I got the flu with the rest of my co-workers.  however, I never got better.  I began to have breathing problems, chest congestion, headaches, fatigue and sinus congestion just to name a few symptoms.  It was effecting me at work and with every aspect of my life.  I thought I was going crazy.  I thought I was somehow creating these symptoms in my head.  Just this morning I was in my bathroom and I noticed something on the floor that was not normal.  I reached over to touch it and freaked out.  It was a mushroom.  Maintenance found mold in the floorboards.  What are my rights?  I cannot afford to move and now the rental company is trying to tell me that I am responsible for expenses for moving and finding another place to stay.  I am very scared and still sick.  My doctor says that it is very serious and I have spots on my lung. What should I do?

I would tell you that whatever you choose to do, you should take care of your health. If that means that you need to borrow money to move– then so be it. If the mushrooms and mold found in your rental unit are causing such severe health problems, then you’ve got to do something. If you can’t afford an attorney, you should consider opening a complaint case. I think theres a link to file at the top of the page.

Good luck with your mold and mushroom problems.

Patrick

Is your Doctor claiming that the spots on your lungs is specifically due to the mold found in your apartment / rental? If he/she is willing to make an official statement saying that the spots are in direct relation to the mold you’ve been exposed to, well then , you really have something.

Hey!  I just found this video on symptoms of mold.  It might give others suffering from mold in their rentals with understanding IF you are experiences side effects from being exposed to molds.  Enjoy…  The video isn’t the best quality.  BUT… has some good explanation:
