COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

first moved in june 2011 and throughout my inspection that week, i filled out the inspection sheet. the cabinets were filthy, old food inside, dirt on the floors in bathroom, stains on the walls in bathroom. window seals & screen were dirty. carpet was itchy and hard, refridgerator had hair in it, no shelves and dirty also. then a bed bug was found and i was bitten up all over my legs. the cost of treatment is $300 my landlord told me i am responsible for the cost. in my lease it says i must keep my apartment clean and sanitary to prevent pest. but if i moved in and it was already dirty, how am i responsible? i called my landlord and left a message he did not return my call, i called again and spoke with him, he said he would take care of the problem right away but also had to talk to his staff and would call me back within a few hours or the next day. it is now 5 days later and no return call or any notice.

Agent Oct 7, 2011 LANDLORD REFUSAL: Despite repeated attempts both written and verbal, the Landlord/ Manager has refused to respond to the complaint. Due to the landlords refusal to cooperate with RPA Mediation, the RPA has no choice but to close this case. The tenant will need to seek other legal options such as court.
