Received vandal damages to garage window and pipe/downspout at front of house. Steven Burkett tried to file a police report with Office Reffitt and notified Grossmans. Steven Burkett is unable to file a police report because not a homeowner. Grossmans state that it is our responsibility to pay for the repairs for these damages. Nothing in the lease states that the tenants are responsible for damages from theft/vandalism, only damages caused by the tenants or their guests, we refuse to pay for damages and notify them if they insist again that it is our responsibility we were to file a claim and seek legal advice. Grossmans refuse to file a report due to not wishing to file an insurance claim. Grossmans respond insisting we are to pay for the damages and the lease states under the RULES AND REGULATIONS that the tenants are responsible, citing "Tenant agrees to be financially responsible for all damage to the property during his occupancy." This statement appears in the context of clogged drains (a damage caused by the tenant) and open windows (a damage caused by the tenant). Grossmans claim that there is no evidence that the broken window and downspout were caused by vandalism - why would the tenants rip out the pipe and break the garage window? We do not feel we should be responsible for the damages that we did not cause. We DO NOT own this property.
