COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

Immediately upon moving into the property on 8/3/2012 my children started receiving bug bites. We have recently discovered that the bug bites are due to a bedbug infestation in their rooms. When we moved into the property we had purchased new beds for the children due to they were now going to be in separate bedrooms and were no longer able to share the bed they had previously been using. They were not getting any bites prior to moving into the premises and with the beds being brand new out of the package it wasn't carried in with current bedding. The landlord was notified about the issue and only made the comment "Are you expecting me to pay for this?" and then told us we could call a pest control company to come out and us take care of it ourselves. I feel this is a problem from the previous tenants maybe having them and should not be our responsibility to cover the cost of removing the infestation from the house. When we first noticed the bites we initially thought it to be fleas due to the fact the one of the closets on the property had a strong smell of a litter box and so we started to treat the carpets in the house for that. When we went into the room to take the sheets of for cleaning them it was apparent that there were bedbugs covering the mattress under the sheets. We have already spent about $300 trying to get the cleaning items necessary to try to begin to get rid of the issue only to find out that the problem isn't one that can be fixed without professional help and the heating systems that they can use to kill them all and not just send them into hibernation until the chemicals wear off.

Renter Dec 3, 2012 76.22.141.95 1.Because the landlord is continuing to refuse to do anything about the bed bug infestation it has of course gotten much worse. They have now been found in additional bedrooms and in the living room downstairs. They have even been found on the bathroom walls during the day. Our very large sectional sofa is now infested and with each passing day more and more of our personal items are being destroyed. We all have been severely and repeatedly bitten by these things. We have spent a significant amount of our own money trying to take care of this ourselves with no success. We are not in a financial position to just be able to move nor are we in a financial position to be able to replace our personal items that are being destroyed. At this point the house is no longer habitable and we have left it to go stay with family. Photos will be added to this complaint soon. We are at this point seeking legal advice due to the loss of use of the home and damage to our personal belongings.
