COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
Immediately upon moving into the property on 8/3/2012 my children started receiving bug bites. We have recently discovered that the bug bites are due to a bedbug infestation in their rooms. When we moved into the property we had purchased new beds for the children due to they were now going to be in separate bedrooms and were no longer able to share the bed they had previously been using. They were not getting any bites prior to moving into the premises and with the beds being brand new out of the package it wasn't carried in with current bedding. The landlord was notified about the issue and only made the comment "Are you expecting me to pay for this?" and then told us we could call a pest control company to come out and us take care of it ourselves. I feel this is a problem from the previous tenants maybe having them and should not be our responsibility to cover the cost of removing the infestation from the house. When we first noticed the bites we initially thought it to be fleas due to the fact the one of the closets on the property had a strong smell of a litter box and so we started to treat the carpets in the house for that. When we went into the room to take the sheets of for cleaning them it was apparent that there were bedbugs covering the mattress under the sheets. We have already spent about $300 trying to get the cleaning items necessary to try to begin to get rid of the issue only to find out that the problem isn't one that can be fixed without professional help and the heating systems that they can use to kill them all and not just send them into hibernation until the chemicals wear off.
