COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

I’m from foreign country and moved to USA only couple of weeks back. I have a 10+ month old baby with me. I was looking out for accommodation for my family and got to know about apartments at 2787 Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City, NJ 07306(Apt 501) through the agent Sherif Fanous of REMAX Realtors(TRANSACTION BROKERS) As confirmed and committed by landlord/broker on 22nd October 2012 that the apartments would be fully ready to occupy before 1st November 2012, I had accepted to sign the lease and paid the landlord security deposit (3000 USD) and one month advance rent(2000 USD) by 24th October 2012.Also paid the broker commission of 2000 USD on the same day. Unfortunately, the apartment is not yet ready. The most painful part is that we had never been informed by landlord or the broker that this apartment is infected much by BED BUGS. Due to health reasons, this should have been communicated earlier before we signed off the lease. As informed by landlord’s clerk that the apartment is ready on 9th November 2012, I have moved in day before yesterday (12th November 2012) and shocked to see BED BUGS still residing in the apartment. My 10 months old baby already had suffered because of bites from BED BUGS. This is a huge health concern and hence I’m really afraid to live here with my family. In addition, plenty of items are yet to be addressed - Pending Items(will be attached for reference due to lack of space - there are 15+ pending items mentioned) The owner had been negligent in attending/answering my calls, attending to the complaints etc. I am really fed up with the response I’ve received from him. Within 3 weeks of time in USA, I’m drained out and completely stressed out because of this. My work life balance is disturbed a lot. I understand that this apartment doesn’t deserve a rent of 2000 USD and I want my landlord to give my money back. I have sent him notice via Fax and I got acknowledgement on the same from her clerk. I have also sent him notice via Certified mail. I’m really upset by the way things are progressing here. I was under impression that this country is really a good place to live, but these events made me to rethink about my opinion in matter of 3 weeks. Appreciate if you can intervene and get my money back ASAP. Worst case, I need the heat treatment for killing all bedbugs and all pending items to be restored in next 3-4 days max.

Landlord sent a man today(15th Nov 2012) to rectify electrical issues in bathroom and to fill cracks and the work is almost complete except or couple of pending items.
I got the keys for postal box and the main door lock that was weak is also replaced today.
I also got a call from his secretary that the guys will come for bedbug treatment on 30th Nov 2012
2.Some more positive updates - I received a call from the landlord that he is out of country(he seems to be in Middle east currently) - He committed to come home once he is back mid net week and see what items needs to be fixed and act on them accordingly.He do also mention that he will ask his secretary to speak with the condo management company for ensuring that the appointment with pest control for bedbug killing will be done ASAP.

Hence please wait till the landlord is back from country - If things are not progressing, I will get back to you seeking assistance
