| COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
|
Unit rented for 11/1/12 occupancy on Oct. 18, 2012. Unit was to include basement workshop, snow & trash removal. Landlord stated tenants in unit A were "nice" prior to signing of lease, but then admitted in late December, 2012 that the Mrs in unit A "wanted to control the whole block" and had called police on other neighbors prior to my renting this apartment. Landlord was less than truthful about tenants being "nice people." This tenant has called police more than a half dozen times, making false reports and harassing my family, pounding on the walls and floor, playing loud music, etc in an effort to force us out. Landlord has blatantly told me that I would have to get along with her, or move out. This tenant is unreasonable and has had other issues with yelling at neighbors, as recently as Christmas week. The tenant in Apt A has made living in this unit a horror and we have not been able to "quietly enjoy" this property since moving in. In addition, Landlord has refused to deliver my apartment, as advertised (full basement, snow and trash removal), as well as the signed lease, despite many e-mail requests. Also, duplex-apartment is not properly divided, between the two units. The door between bot units is not solid, not insulated, and the tenants in "A" peer through the spaces in this door. The wall in the basement (where the workshop is) has an open gap of 8" all along the top of the wall, which allows all conversation by both apartments to be heard by the other as well as allows any and all "odors" to seep into either apartment. In addition, there are numerous wires and electrical work, which does not appear to be up to code. (Apt was renovated in the months prior to my taking occupancy). In short, landlord has refused to act as mediator between his two tenants, despite police informing me that this is his duty. I have offered a reduced rental amount (equal to the average price for apts in this area for the actual services provided minus the "full basement." (advertised, but not delivered/usable as we were led to believe). Snow and Trash removal (also advertised as included features of the rental) have been limited and/or non-existent). When I called to follow-up with landlord after viewing apartment, he informed me that there were two families that wanted the rental, but the other family was a single Mom with 2 boys...and he would not rent to a single Mom. (I met this single-Mom the day I originally viewed the apartment). These practices are NOT LEGAL.
