We were leased a bed beg infested apartment as a new resident. We filed the inventory stating the apartment had bugs and turned it in within the required 48 hours. We were told they would take care of it. Approx. 4 weeks later contractors confirmed the existence of the bed bugs, it was a Friday; the day before we were to move in. We moved in our things on the very next day, Saturday. We had given them our move in dates but they failed to let us know the bed bugs had not been taken care of. On that Saturday, after all our furniture was moved in, we noticed the bed bugs were still there and we immediately took our things out. All this took place in less than 4 hours, but our things were exposed. The complex knew the apartment had not yet been treated, but they didn't notify us. We feel they should be liable for the replacement of our mattress and sofa. A simple phone call would have delayed out moving in. Note: We have video and pictures of the infestation when we wrote our inventory and on the day we moved our things in.
