COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

I am protesting being charged $695.00 to $715.00 for a second treatment of bed bugs. In May of 2012 I reported bed bugs in my apartment alongside the baseboard in a corner and in my (originally new mattress) to the management of the Wilmot Vista Apts. The manager, Fatima Boubion, scheduled treatment on May 17, 2012 I was satisfied with the treatment and the re-inspections that followed. Since then, on March 21, 2013, the apt below mines was treated for bed bugs. A few days prior to March 21, 2013 , I was told they would be inspecting for roaches. On March 21, 2013, I was given another visual inspection, not for roaches, but bed bugs specifically while they were setting up bed bug treatment in Apt. 13151 below. After the inspection, the management office and the certified Inspector told me that he had seen a nymph and that there had to be a female present. A certified letter came the very next day stating that I was responsible for treatment and cost. The first experience was so horrific that I would notice by symptoms, odors and sight the presence of bedbugs. However, the apts. have stated in a letter to me: “It came to our attention that you have bed bugs again. They were found in your mattress and because we already did a treatment in 2012 and you were given a clear report, which means there was no evidence of bed bugs after treatment. Now the report of positive presence of bed bugs on 3/21/2013 tells the exterminating company that somehow you have brought them into your apartment or someone visited you that had them, which will leave you responsible for paying a second treatment of bed bugs. We will schedule your apartment and you can make arrangements in the office for payments. The amount can be between $695 - $715” The Apt, has scheduled a re-treatment for April 2, 2013 • My apt. #13251 was treated on May, 17, 2012 • Apt. #14153 was treated just over a month ago, and was retreated shortly thereafter and the tenant has been charged for a 2nd treatment, • And, Apt. No 13151 was just treated on March 21, 2013 There is nothing in my lease which alludes to a charge being assessed for a retreatment of any pest control. Although other units in my building, other buildings, and even other properties have been wholly infested, I was never informed of a bed bug situation upon moving in. The fact is: • There are bed bugs, they have been here before and I am told that they have returned. • The same bed bugs (a nymph) has come into my apartment
