COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
Last Monday night(9/16) I discovered bed bugs in my bedroom. I hadn't Noticed any before and had no bite marks before this day. I also hadn't slept in my bed since Thursday (9/12). I immediately called William Penn Realty Group and left a message asking that they have someone exterminate ASAP. Tuesday (9/17) morning I hadn't received a call back so I called and they told me since I had been a resident over 2 years I was responsible for the charge because "I obviously brought them into the apartment". So, I looked over my lease which said nothing about these charges being my responsibility after a certain amount of time. In fact, the lease states that they promise to exterminate to keep the apartment free of bugs and pests. However, I didn't have time to wait around so I had an exterminator come Tuesday 9/17 and put it on a credit card since I can't afford to pay that much right now. Especially on top of all the other expenses I've had as a result of this incident. My roommate and I went around to the other tenants in the building to see if they had seen any bugs and the rental company hadn't even notified them that we had bugs in the building! They didn't even send anyone to inspect. This made me angry because they made me pay an extermination fee that would be useless if the rest of the building had been infested because they would just come back to our apt. After we got our apartment exterminated, we had to wipe everything down and I noticed that my kitchen cabinets which are elevated were infested with bed bugs. I am almost positive they were in the cabinets before my bedroom because there were so many more and the wall the cabinets are on is right next to my bedroom/ bed so they could've easily traveled through the wall. On Wednesday(9/18) Mark called me and asked what company I was using to exterminate and if they could do the other tenants in the building. I explained that I took care of my apartment already and the other apartments in the building were not my problem. I explained that my lease said nothing about my roommate and I being responsible for extermination of bed bugs and that I was going to file a claim and he hung up on me. I haven't spoken to him or anyone else from the company since. Other tenants in the building who have moved in after us said they had to sign a paper saying they had to pay for bed bug extermination but we never had to sign anything like that so I don't see how it's fair for them to place the responsibility on me.
