COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
Our first night staying at the location, we went to bed and noticed what looked like beetles. We were unaware what they were until we searched it on my phone. After determining they were bed bugs, we contacted the rental property owner (Loretta) that night. We were unable to stay there because there were so many bed bugs. The following day, she stated an exterminator had come out that following morning and put down some powder to kill the bugs. After she had reassured us that the powder would kill the bugs, we went back to the location. Two nights late, I woke up with two bite marks on my legs. I told landlord we could no longer stay there because it was putting my newborn son in danger. The landlord advised us AFTER moving in that she had an exterminator out there to kill the bed bugs before us moving in. We were not told any of this previous to signing lease and moving in. After contacting the landlord, she agreed to let us out of the lease, but would not sign a paper saying we could not be help responsible for the bed bug problems. She would not give us our deposit back and then stated we were trying take advantage of her because she was elderly. She has admitted to family having bed bugs but is still trying to put the blame on my wife and I who have never had bed bugs before. We had Terminix come out and inspect the property and told us that the location was infested with Bed Bugs and that if we had brought them, they couldn't have multiplied that fast and moved into the walls that quickly. He said they had to have been there before us moving in. The infestation was also in the cabinets above the bed, and was advised that they move up off of the ground when their is a chemical on the floor so they can get away from it. Landlord also stated that she did not want an exterminator out there and that she has her own "personal" exterminator whom we have not met or heard her say his name.
