On October 25, complaint was made of leak underneath kitchen sink with details provided of cabinet bowing on surface and small puddle noticed. Plumber was scheduled by Thompson and agreed to arrive on Monday at 5pm. Plumber discovered leakage had seeped into lower apartment unit (uninhabited due to asbestos and mold issues). Thompson then threatened to increase rent in 60 days from $2,200 to $3,000. His behavior was aggressive and accusative that I had knowingly neglected the leak causing major damage, causing me emotional distress. It was agreed that the plumber would return the next day with parts to finish the job.
On October 27, Thompson and the plumber returned and I was handed a hand written letter threatening eviction in 30 days or until the end of November. I rejected the contents of the letter as invalid since I have occupied the house for four years and am aware that I am allowed at least 60 days notice to vacate. I also reject the letter based on the terms of retaliation of repairs. I had a new roommate move into the house on October 1, 2015 with conditions that he would sublet from me until January 1, 2015 or longer. Because of this recent agreement, I also assert that his threat to vacate was retaliatory as it was made one day after the plumber visited my apartment, and because of the threat the day before of rental increase.
In addition, I would like to assert that complaints have been made to put the house in good repair with issues with electric outlets and light switches, removal of contaminated asbestos material that have been sitting for over one year in a shared storage garage, and a stagnant dishwasher that repeated requests have been made to repair with no compliance. The garage mentioned also has food decomposing for over one year removed by Thompson from the previous tenant creating unsanitary conditions of mold and rubbish. The gate does not have a working latch, the stairs on side of the house are a safety hazard, and the doors in the house are not equipped with dead bolts. I have never received a statement that there is lead present in the house, however, the paint peeling in the house is suspect containing of lead and the house was built in 1950.
