As promissed, I'm updating everyone on my bedbug complaint I filed with the RPA. My case was assigned to an RPA Agent today. The agent has reviewed my complaint and prepared a written notice that is being mailed out today. The notice is being mailed to my landlord via certified USPS Certified Mail with the following tracking number 7009 0080 0001 1270 0474.

The agent has informed me that now the case is pending a response from my landlady. I can't wait to see how she responds!! I feel like finally someone is standing up for my rights. I'll post the next time I have an update. :)

I've been facing the same bed bug problem at my apartment. I tried working it out with my landlady but, she really had no interest in resolving the problem. That's when I decided to file a complaint with the RPA. I was a little apprehensive at first, but now that I filed I know my rights are being met.
I have an open case still, so I don't know what the end results are... but I can tell you that at least I'm standing up for my rights. I have my case number but it hasn't been assigned to an Agent yet.
I will update you on my case as things happen.
P.S. Here's the complaint form to file a bed bug complaint: https://www.rentalprotectionagency.com/complaint_center_form.php

Don't stress about your belongings, your renter's insurance will cover that. Call up your insurance company to ask them to give you a bid. If you don't have renter's insurance, well, chalk it up to "Lessoned Learned." Your landlord isn't going to pay for any of your belongings, trust me I've been done that road. Luckily I had a renter's insurance policy that covered my property.

QUESTION: How can management wait so long to treat my bed bug infestation

ANSWER: As landlords we have right to respond within a reasonable timeframe. 5 days seems a little long due to the type of infestation, but then again, its probably reasonable. I'm sure you didn't just wake up with bed bugs-- they've probably been in your unit for some time. It is possible that your body is now showing a response to their bites.

Yes, you're right that you do have some rights when your apartment get infested by bed bugs. In most cases your landlord should promptly treat your rental unit. Proper treatment can save all of your belongings. Its not always true that you have to toss the mattress. There are treatments that can save all of your property.
BED BUG WARNING!!
What ever you do DON'T MOVE until you have completely treated the bed bug infestation. By moving you will just spread the problem to your new place. Bed bugs are highly spreadable, so you NEED to properly treat them before you do anything else.
