Unfortunetly for you the contract is a solid binding agreement. I have seen contracts that have specific termination clauses due to loss of employment. But these types of clauses are usually only included in the contract when a tenant adds an addendum that explains the condition. So what I’m trying to say is that you really are in a tough spot.
If you look at it from there end by wearing your landlords shoes… why should they also suffer a hardship if their contract clearly states what both parties agreed to? Its not exactly fair to assume that your landlord will take on the burden of your job loss. Its tough times, but the contract you signed agreed to whatever terms are set forth in the written agreement, regardless of your situation.
I would do whatever it takes to negotiate with your property managers. Even if you have to set up a payment plan or pay with a credit card, do what you need to keep the collection off of your record.
