Yes, you are definitely able to try to get restitution for the medical bills and for the items you had to get rid of - as long as you have receipts and as long as your doctor says that the illnesses were due to the mold. In my state, if you sign a lease and later find out the property is inhabitable, the landlord has to pay for a new place for you to live until the place is habitable again. If I were you, I'd report your former landlord to the department of health and HUD.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
