I signed a year lease and and I lefted 4 months early. I a gave him a 30 day notice and he told me I can not give one cause my lease was not up and i told he i would be leaveing a the end of the month so he said I will sue you. At the end of the month I lefted averything was clean and nothing was lefted in the apartment. He sent me a letter saying I owed for the 4 months I lefted eary I paid it in full until 20011 when my lease was up. I asked about my deposit cause I paid all my rent in full and their was NO damages and the said you don’t get it back you broke your lease. Could you tell me why I can’t get my deposit back if the suffered no loss?

By the way– many times when you terminate your lease early, you may still be responsible for the remaining rent. So, be very careful when you need to move-out prior to the end of your contract. When it comes to breaking a lease agreement, you should at the minimum try RPA Mediation. (although its titled a complaint, it is mediation and should help you negotiate fair terms)

Yes, your landord can keep your security deposit when you break or terminate your lease agreement. When you move out prior to the end of your contract, you have broken the contract you made and as such the deposit is usually forfeited. Read your lease agreement to see exactly what it says about terminating the lease early…
