I would inform them that you do not want to be talk to like a child. You have to ask your landlord for permission for the pet and he may require despoit. Why would he call you dumb for asking that?.

If your landlord keeps on with the name calling (as you call it) he may be in violation with landlord-tenant laws as he (according to you) is creating a hostile environment.
