Your lease should have a section detailing exactly how much can be charged for wall repainting depending on the severity of the repaint and the size of your apartment, as well as carpet cleaning fees. For one bedroom touch-up paint, my MAX according to my lease is 115$, and I love in a very nice apartment. Carpet cleaning for one room has a MAX of 85$ in my lease as well. Did you have any pets that would have made the carpets urine stained? Did you take photos of the apartment before you left? I always advise taking photos both when you move in, and when you move out, for comparison. If you have limits set in your lease (mine are under the Cleaning Specifications Exhibit) and you have some type of photo evidence, you should be able to talk down your landlord. If you do have limits set, your landlord can NOT legally exceed them, as it is a contract he/she drafted. I wish you the best of luck!
