Make sure you have not overused the furnace, as per the Indiana law tenants should comply with the obligations to use things such as Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems, etc to its optimum level. if the problem is already before you moved in and furnance was giving the issue by and large when owner of the house installed it, then your rights to ask the landlord to fix the furnance problem is legit. Please don't take this reply as legal help, if you need any help you can file a complaint with RPA. To my understanding they have a best practice method to help the tenants with their problem with Landlord or apartment managers. https://www.rentalprotectionagency.com/complaint_center_form.php

Hope your problem will get solved soon.
