Is the landlord aware of you being gone? Did he give you anything in writing such as an email or a checkout sheet showing that you vacated the unit? If you have anything like that it will definetly help your case. If you are renting from a first time landlord he/she will most likely just want to get your old roommates out of the rental. However, they may still try to take it to court to get the remaining money. Can you get your old roommates to sign a statement saying that you had vacated the unit previously and is not cause for the eviction?
