They already agreed to let it go. That agreement is a contract in itself. 

Nobody ever really knows for sure what might happen in court. But, it sounds like you have been dealing fairly and responsibly with the information and resources you have, and I don&#039;t think the court would disturb the oral contract you had with the landlord. I think they will have to just stick with the agreement they made with you.

This is all assuming there&#039;s not something obviously contrary in the lease, or your state statutes, like, &quot;Tenant must do whatever landlord says, even long after their tenant-landlord relationship is over.&quot;  LOL
