If the water heating mechanism smokes a lot, then there could be an issue with the wiring or something. Mine used to smoke while in the shower and I had to call maintenance to have it fixed. If you live in the same building, this could be an issue that your landlord needs to deal with. If your landlord doesn’t act on it, you can file a complaint with agencies like RPA.
