3 Day Notice

By CDM

I have been having personal problems in the pass weeks (I was hit and my car was totaled and I’ve been having to rent a car but I don’t have extra funds to rent car but I need to get to work). Anyway, I guess my rent check bounced 3 weeks ago. I assumed it went through because my account had been overdrawn (I had been post dating my checks and including a $25 late fee because of the time frame to when I got paid to make sure the dates matched up. The manager actually holds on to the rent until the middle of the month) So I owe for May, I called my apartment management and told her that I would pay the fee and the bank fee when I got paid the following friday. She wanted a money order for $695. I told her okay but when I got paid (the week after my accident) it wasn’t enough. Only $430, so I didn’t send anything I though if I wait to add it with my new check it would be about $1500 and I could pay both May and June and be current. But today, I received a 3 day notice to pay or quit for an amount for $3195. I was signed on to the lease in August. This is the first time I missed a payment but my current roommate’s sister use to live in the apartment and she lost her job and couldn’t pay. The management I guess was aware and worked with her but she moved out in August (the month I signed up). The previous balance plus my current balance has been added to the told. Am I legally responsible for the total amount? I do owe $1370 (last month plus this month plus $25(late fee)). I really don’t know what to do. I don’t have family out in Los Angeles and I am on the verge of a total breakdown (i’m already depressed over my car, that sent me to the hospital and I have a $700 hospital bill to pay out of pocket). I left a message for the manager. I’m called my family and left a message and hopefully they will be able to help me move this weekend. Plus I might have to quit my job and leave back to northern California. Please help somebody, seriously, I don’t know what to do. I am gathering things to sell and even look into trying to get a payday loan but I cannot pay the full portion just mines. My roommate I guess said they(she and her sister) were evicted before but I guess the manager didn’t do the paperwork fully (she just barely told me this less than 2 days ago). What can I do?
