problem with landlord repair and past allowed time to fix it

I am wanting to know what I can do to get out of a lease I think the landlord broke according to MT state codes.
He did not fix the main heater source within the required 14 days of being notified it was broken. I was told by his leasing agent in a letter that he did not need to fix it within that time just be notified and that he needed time to finance it and get bids to fix or replace it. This same agent said the supplemental heat was enough heat the house. It was not as I had to use space heaters to keep kitchen pipes from freezing during cold snap in Nov. Since I felt he broke the lease I moved out and have since moved to WA state.
Any advice on what I can do or who I should contact?
