Lease Amendment

My landlord had to come in my apt, when he did he saw a washer in my kitchen. My original lease signed in 1993 stated nothing about washers not being permitted. Later in years in decided to add an amendment to the lease renewals. I never signed it. he recently sent me notice that im in violation and either have to dispose the washer or pay maintenance. Can he do this?
