Mold
By Tanya
Hi, I have a big issue and I hope someone who really knows about this can help me. My apartment has mold. I discovered it on Friday, so I called my landlord the next day. On Monday she was here with a contractor and he said this was so bad that it was out of his hand, that she nedeeded to contac the insurance and have a mold mitigation company. On Tuesday the adjustors came and didn’t found what is causing the mold, so he advised her to contact a Leak detection company. She did and they are coming tomorrow. The thing is the adjustors said the insurance doesn';t cover the damages: ruin shoes and clothes with mold on it, neither it covers living arrangements for us while this is take care of. And it could take months. To add I HAVE A BABY AND I AM ASMATHIC. I am very afraid to live in this apartment. Specially beacuse a neighbor in the same building had the same problem, so we suspect is a building issue. We want to know if we break the lease are we entitled to receive our deposit back? A friend in an Realtors company told me she has to pay us the same amount we pay when we moved in (3 months) in order to us to move, if she doesn’t want to be sue. I read the whole rental law of Florida and it only specify that we can break the lease but it does not say anything about damages, deposit and money to move. HELP ME PLEASE
