renting a flat with my friend through the agency

hello. i was renting a flat with my friend through the agency. We payed a deposite 850 pound for a month. we lived there 3 and a half month. One day come people and just evict us, becouse we didnt payed the rent. I was giving my friend all the money for the rent and i didnt knew that he spending the money somewhere else. Council tax is not payed also. on tenant and council tax contracts there is both of our names. My "friend" went to his country and left me. So if we were kicked from the flat i need to pay for these days one more time? its possible to write evrything to his name? what about consile taxes? i need to call them and after to pay everything? I dont know what to do, please help me.
