Breaking apartment lease

My wife and I may need to move for my job but we are in the middle of  a one year apartment lease. I am new to Colorado so I don’t know what the laws regarding breaking apartment lease in this state. What are the laws and requirements?

Hello Spiff. First thing you need to do is to check your lease if there is a clause about terminating your lease early. Check to see if it is stated on your lease that you have to pay for a certain amount as fees for terminating your lease. If your lease says that you need to pay fees for early lease termination then you have to pay the fees. As for a requirement, you need to provide your landlord with a 30 or 60 day written notice to vacate the rental unit depending on what you state laws require.
