old carpet replacement in how many years

I keep looking for an answer for my question but keep geeting the same remarks this question is in every rental, so why isn’t there an answer if I LIVED IN A apartment for longer than 8+ years and my carpet was not replaced before i moved in and is now older and stains when we moved in and now wear and tere is the landlord obagated to change the carpet, or must i pay, oh by the way out side the building say luxuary apartments and does that make a difference thank you
