landlore refuse to give my deposit money back

i have one question, i deposit a $100 dollars for security deposit and later had a huge emergency at my home outer island away i contacted the landlord to let her know my problem and that there would be a change and decided i want my money back, she lets me know she wont give it back. Does she have the right to keep my money, this is honolulu hawaii . i need help
