Rental contract question

I recently moved to Rhode Island. I was shown a place to rent (residential), and signed a 1- year lease. This was last week. After the lease was signed, I asked the owner if I could delay moving in (and starting of the rent) because of the movers, and Hurricane Sandy. I asked to delay it one week or so. The owner said no, and I got the feeling he would be difficult for the rest of the time I am in the place.

question: I have not moved in at all, and no money has changed hands. No rent, no deposit, yet. What are my options to get out of this contract? I just feel the owner may be difficult, and may not want to get involved. Because I have not given any money, would that make the contract void?
