gas shut off, landlord didn’t pay bill

I live in an apartment in Phoenix that has water and gas included in the rent. They have not paid the gas bill for over three months and the gas company came in today and said they were going to shut off gas to the property. What are my rights as a tennant? And what about appliances that run on gas that now no longer work?

Hi Denise! I understand your frustration. I know how important it is to have gas most especially if your appliances are run by it. Since gas is included in your rent then it is your landlord’s responsibility to pay for it. The best thing you could do right now is to file a complaint against your landlord. You can either file a complaint through your local county or through mediation companies like the RPA. Good luck!
