3 day pay or quit

so my landlords are give me and my roommate a 3 day pay or quit notice for being almost two weeks late on rent and are saying when the 3 days are up that they will get the sheriff to come and change the locks. At which point they said that we will not be allowed to get any of our belongings. Can they do this?Oh and they never give any notice when they come over they just show up and have done so all but one time
