Overly Sensitive Neighbors

By Nick

Ok so I moved into an apartment in Mesa, AZ and my neighbors keep complaining about noise. I do watch movies and things but I keep things reasonable. When I first moved in they called the cops and they came over and told me to keep it down. So graciously and respectfully I keep things at a reasonable level. Fast forward 2 months and several movies later I’m watching LDS General conference and an hour later I get a knock at the door from a cop that says they’ve have several complaints and now that management is involved I will probably be evicted based on the "Crime Free" addendum in the lease which outlines tenants can’t be a "nuisance". So now I wait with baited breath to see if I need to find another place to live! I know that Mesa has a pretty strict noise ordinance but it’s getting a little ridiculous. I’m not trying to purposefully be a jerk or have a personal vendetta to be as annoying as possible here. Am I just a jerk or can I file a complaint with the Consumer Advocacy Group or through this site. I’m not a loud person but I feel like my neighbors are on me everytime I move wrong.

Well you have to find out your rights first as a tenant. If you feel you have been treated unfairly by your neighbors and they have been complaining unreasonably, and at the same time you are certain you were not being loud, go to RPA’s section of filing complaints and have matters fixed which you cannot do on your own. Rather than waiting or anticipating when will your landlord evict you because of your overly sensitive neighbors complaining about you.

Thanks for the reply. I had a chat with management today. I told them I didn’t appreciate the authorities coming over every time I make a little noise and that the neighbors should come talk to me first and also they should expect a bit of noise just because of the nature of apartments. The management was most accomodating and assured me that I wouldn’t be kicked out.
