Bats and Bat bugs

By Paul

I live in an apartment Building. It’s a older building. When I moved in i started noticing little bugs around the floors of the windows and around the window seals themselves. After doing a little research I came to the conclusion they were bed bugs. I notified my landlord, and of course he told me all about the apartment being clean when I got there and that they must have come in through my stuff…blah, blah, blah…He sent over an exterminator, but it did little to no good.

So, i decided to investigate on my own a little further. What i discovered was that I did not have bed bugs…i actually had bat bugs. The apartment buidling is a prime stop for bats and a great resting stop for piegons. The bats live in the walls and I can pretty much hear them all night squealing.

My question is this, what legal obligation do I have to make my landlord get rid of the bats, and the bat bugs? I have an eight year old son that visits every weekend and I’m worried that if his mother finds out she will not let him come over.

thanks for any advice,
Paul
