Bed bugs treatment charge from my old apartment after leaving the place

Hi all,
We moved to a new apartment recently and after 4 days, we received a notice from the old apartment ppl that they are going to charge us like $500 for bed bug  treatment and 3.5 week of rent charge since they cannot have anyone live there for that time period due to the bed bug treatment. We informed our old apartment ppl about the bedbugs issue 2 years back and they did some cleaning at that time and now they are planning to charge us these fess. What can be done here?…Isn’t it the landlord’s responsibility for the bedbug clean up here?

Any help in this matter will be appreciated
