Being kicked out of an illegal guest house

By anonymous

Hi, I had no idea guest houses were illegal in California as I’m not from here. But, recently my landlord told me that I need to be out of here within 20 days and he would pay me back my security deposit and residual September rent for the days that I won’t be living on the property. We had a month to month rental contract so I’m wondering if there is anything I can do. I mean it’s just so messed up that they are the ones that screwed up yet I’m the one getting screwed. Any adivce will be greatly appreciated

The least that you can do, is to talk to your landlord and let him look for another place for you to stay since they were the ones who messed up. But in regards to the illegality of guest houses in California, we cannot do anything on that. We need to follow the law. Wish you luck. :)
