Can i fight this??????

By Shay

I moved into my apartment 5 days ago only to discover the apartment is infested with bedbugs. I contacted the manager and after one of the employees implied it was my fault and that "they" didnt bring them there she told me i could get out of my lease and only recive back some of the money i paid not all. So now after only being there 5 days so far im sure all of my things are also infested and now i am out my money and everything i own. Its clear that the bugs were there long before i got there but they insist they didnt know anything about this problem. Is there anything at all that i can do. Can i sue them or is there anyone i can go to that will help me get compensated for my belongings? I am a heart patient with an 8 yr old son and this is the last thing i need. Please help i am so frustrated and i just dont know what to do. I cant eat ot sleep and my son is afraid to sleep also. Need some advice.

Sick and tired…..

Hello Shay. I feel sorry for what happened. Well your landlord can only evict you if you have done something wrong in your apartment, and I believe that those bedbugs didn’t come from you. You can talk to him about the notice (if he had given you any) and explain the situation clearly or you can stay in the unit and see if he will file an application against you with the Board. If he does, you have the chance to go to the hearing, tell the member about the issue and defend yourself. In this case you can stay in your unit until the Board issues an eviction order, your lucky if the Board will not issue one. Just remember that you cannot be legally evicted without an eviction order from the Board. Fight for your right! You can also file a complaint against him to RPA. :) Goodluck Shay!
