Carper replacement

By joy

When we first moved into the house, the carpet was already over 10yrs old and was stained in some places. The landlord stated she thought about replacing it but thought she could get a few more years out of it. After residing there for 2yrs we moved out. There were a few new stains from us that a carpet cleaner would have been able to removed. However we were told not to worry about cleaning it as they were going to replace the carpet. We just received a bill for the carpet replacement. We are being charged to replace 66% of the carpet due to stains. Since the carpet is over 10 years old are we liable to replace it?
