Carpet Replacement due to Pet

By JHall

I received a bill in the mail yesterday from my apartment complex. They are charging me $300 for carpet replacement due to pet urine stains. I paid a $300 dollar pet deposit ($150 non-refundable), plus I had to pay $10 a month in pet rent on top of my normal rent.

I know there were stains on the carpet I couldn’t get out, and I was not expecting my deposit back. I had gotten a small puppy and I was working on house-training him, so yes, there were stains.
The carpet was not new when I moved in, but it was still wet from the carpet cleaning it had received just a few hours before. It had stains everywhere, and I have the pictures from the day I moved in and the day I moved out.
Can they charge me another $300 dollars to replace the carpet due to pet stains when I paid a $300 pet deposit to begin with?
And what does the $10 a month pet rent cover?
