deposit return issue

By norman

I totally fulfiled by rental agreement and I cleaned my apartment and returned keys ahead of time.  i spoke to the leasing agency and was told that all my paper work was in order and I’d receive my refundable deposit in 14 days.  It has now been over 30 days and has spoken to the leasing agency by phone a couple of times and have received excuse as to why i havent received by deposit. what legal rights do i have?

Do you have some form of document stating that you will receive your deposit in 14 days? If not, then you probably don’t have anything to present in court. Normally, the deposit will be returned to you 30-45 days after you move out but that depends on the lease agreement. Now, I suggest you consult a lawyer on what you should do legally. On the other hand you can file a complaint with a mediation agency like the RPA to help you out.
