Failure to provide a safe environment?

By Ell

My apartment is a basement level unsecured (rest of the apartment has secured entry) apartment. Yesterday someone broke in by smashin the window on my front door. I called the landlord as soon as I discovered this at 9:45pm. He asked me if I had a board and screws to close it up and I said no and he also said he didn’t have anything. So I had to sit there over night with my window broken out and someone could have easily gotten in! Maintenance did come today and fix it but was my landlord in the wrong by not finding a solution to keeping me somewhat sfe last night? Even some plastic over the window would have been better then nothing.
