Frustrated renter!

By kayla

I have been living in the same apt complex for 3 years now, but switched apartments. Even in the other apartment problems i had were unresolved, until i moved out. The apartment i moved to across the hall, had many need to fix issues, upon moving in. Some of the issues i have fixed myself. I have been in this apartment for over a year now, i had to resign a 12 month lease upon move-in. May 2011 is when i moved across the hall, and i still haven’t been given the option to resign another lease.

A few of the main issues around this apartment is… The maintenance man hit the bedroom screen window with a weed wacker before i moved in, and there is a giant tear in the screen now, i haven’t been able to open my bedroom window since i moved in (over a year ago), and have made many complaints to the on-site manager, and her boyfriend (the maintenance man), and it is still unresolved, and i still can’t open my window.

My bathroom floor is literally peeling away from the walls and the bath tub, there isn’t and never was a vinyl guard to make sure water doesn’t get under the floor.

The windows we have in every apartment, leak COLD air during the winter even with plastic cover. The heater in my apartment kicks on BY ITSELF even if i have the the thermostat turned off manually, i was told by the apartment manager and maintenance man it’s automatic during the winter, we pay our own electric/heating bill.. shouldn’t we decide whether or not we want it on? I usually don’t have the heater on  constantly during the winter because the bill is WAY too high otherwise, but it kicks on by itself.

There is another tenant who mows the lawn on his side of the building, and waters all the grass himself, because he was sick of the overgrown grass that was brown and crunchy. A few other tenants have issues in their own apartments that they have had to fix themselves cuz the maintenance man refused to do it. And now they are trying to raise everybodies rent??? Why should any of us have to pay extra?? It doesn’t seem right considering a few of us feel like WE should be the ones getting rent taken off for doing the work the maintenance man is getting paid for. Is there anything WE as an apartment community can do?
