keeping my depoist

By Ida Gonzales

rented a townhome from a person not the landlord he is the landlords friend, we signed a years lease, but we had problems with the 28 steps to go to the bedrooms with my husband disabled and my back problems,  Well our granddaughter subleased and we were all good payees we were there for 4 months and then she resigned a lease, she was there over a year, her lease was up in October and her and the landlord’s friend had a agreement to come to resign a lease, but  he was not good at doing what he was suppose to, in the mean time she loses her job and tells him she needs to move out in December, but paid up till then and had all the carpets cleaned kept calling him to do a walk through, well he got in an accident and prolonged getting back to her, so I called him because I wanted my depoist back.  I asked him how come he hadn’t did a walk through wiith my granddaughter and he said oh I had a key and it looks better than when you moved in and I said that’s true.  So I asked him for our depoist and he won’t give it to us. He says he had to pay the next months rent which was a lie.  I finally got ahold of the landlord I wrote him a letter cause he’s the one that moved back into the townhome and he just asked how much depoist did we put down and I told him 800 and he was shocked anyway he said well I had to pay 2 months of payments.  I told him that was not our fault.   What can I do?
