Landlord going through my mail

By Liz

I have been having a lot of problems with my landlord lately and I’m trying to find a loophole out of my year lease.  Most recently, I’ve noticed that my outgoing mail has been tampered with.  I put out some mail on Saturday along with some mail I had received that was addressed to a former tenant and on Sunday a few pieces of the mail had been put back in my box and the others had been clipped to the front of the box (initially they were all in a tray below the box).  This is not the first time this has happened either.  I know it’s the landlord that did it, so I’m just trying to figure out if it is legal for him to read through my outgoing mail.  The boxes aren’t locked and he hasn’t actually opened my mail but I don’t like the fact that he has been going through my things.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
