landlord wont pay me back my security deposit

By Kate

Hi,

After 8 years of renting, my landlord wont give me back my security deposit. He said we completely damaged the property. The thing is we has an inspection on the appartment a month before we moved, and the inspector didn’t find anything, only some pilled paint on the porch. We did removed some carpet from the steps after 4-5 years , and we told this to our landlord, because the carpet have been whetered off, and became dangerous. My son triped once and fallen from the steps . Luckily only from the bottom. After this accident we removed the carpet, and painted the floor to not dammage the flor board. And we told the landlord, and he said it is OK. When we moved in we got the kitchen where the cabinets have been already 12 years old, and now my landlord complaining that the cabinets are whetered. When he put the clear paint on the cabinets doors he wont clean them, so the dirt under the paint shows trough. Eved I showed him, "look you painted the dirt under" , he still thinks is my fault the cabinets looks old and dirty. He used the cheepest carpet , and after years the carpet became so fragile, my vacum cleaner pulled up in some places. Afcourse I always told him about the dammages what have been occured, he never came to fix it. Now he claims I didn’t take care of the appartment. It is a duplex house, and in 8 years I has 3 neighbors, and after the first 2 he has to rebuild the whole appartment and he give the security deposite back to the others, Now he have the third tennant there. I know they have some financial problem, but that is NOT MY problem.

How can I can get my deposit back? Because my landlord don’t want to talk with us, when my husbant went over to his house, he started to yell with him, like crazy.

Guess pretty much you did everything as far as reaching out to the landlord is concern. File a complaint through RPA. In that way they’ll contact the landlord for you and help you out with this.http://www.rentalprotectionagency.com/complaint_center.php. Here you can visit that site.
