My landlord retaining most of the security deposit for repairs

By shree

Hello everyone,
I’m in a situation where my landlord is replace interior kitchen cabinets from our security deposity.

The issue:
We bought a protective removable lining from walmart (2yrs ago) so that we don’t spill the cabinets with cooking stuff and stains.

Somehow the lining didn’t come off easily and while trying to remove it its actually removing the cabinet coating as well.
So I told my landlord to give me an estimate and let us know.

After 4 weeks, since we vacated he gives us a quote for $945 which includes
1. Entirely replace 7 cabinet planks
2. Re-surfacing the bottom portion for all the top and bottom cabinets
3. Replacing the entire sunmica kitchen counter top, just because there was less than penny size burn mark and the side line peeled of due to excessive heat from the dish washer.

Please let us know if I can proceed against my landlord.

I also paid $200 for cleaning the entire house. Its not about money but I feel more about being mistreated.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
