notice of vacating

By Not Sure

I am moving out of my apartment and when reading the terms, am a little confused if the landlord has any right to hold me to the "60 day notice" if the year long lease has already expired and am now month to month. also i am in New York State. Here is the exact verbage in the term:

The term of this Lease Agreement is for 1 year beginning 3/1/11 and ending 2/29/12. If tenent wishes to vacate at the end of this term, tenent is required to notify management, in writing, 60 days prior to the end of this term. After experation of lease, teneant may (with approval of management) continue occupancy on a rental agreement which requires 60 days written notice before vacating. notice must be reqceived by the 1st of the month.

I want to move out and will be giving more then a months notice. Is there any laws or bylaws for tenants that says only a month notice is required when month to month as this term should no longer be valid since it has been more then a year and thus, expired.

any help would be great.
