Problem with bed bugs

By JM

I rent an apartment few months ago and bed bugs has been invating the apartment for the past 2 months.  Landlords refused to get an exterminator to come over unless I pay for it.

Hi JM, you do have available options for you. One of these is taking your landlord to court, but that option will surely cost you a lot of money. You can also file a complaint with the RPA, i believe there is a $35 processing fee and it is fine than paying a hundred dollars or more just to sue your landlord. They will allow you to file a complaint with or without verification control company. I already tried this once and the agent was of big help. 😉

Problem with Bed Bugs

By theresa

I am in the middle of treating my apt for bedbugs.  They initially told me I was responsible for the bill but they never told me how much.  I didn’t say anything because I just wanted it treated and would deal with price and negotiations later.  They are getting ready to treat a 3rd time and my infestation I don’t believe was terribly bad…in fact I only SAW a couple.  I went back in after a couple days after the 2nd treatment and they were walking all over the couch.  I cannot be in there anymore.  It has psychologically effected me and my daughter so bad that we are willing to throw out everything I own, move out and start over somewhere else.  Is it possible to get out of my lease and can they keep my deposit $.  I figure that if I get everything out they can make sure it is clear of all bed bugs and can rerent fairly quickly.  If they rerent before my lease is up in August, will I still be responsible for the remainder of my lease?

Problem with Bed Bugs

By TBW

Hello,

About 1 month ago I discovered I had "Bed Bugs" in my apartment after the 1st treatment I was told I would be charged 300.00 for 2 treatments, the treatments were done and I still have Bugs, I was told that the infestation was my fault that is why I am being charged.  I have lived in my apartment for 10 years, during that time no improvements were done to the apartment, painting and re-carpeting.  The "Bed Bugs" are nesting in the Brick Wall behind my sleeping area that needs to be tuck pointed.  I have asked for painting and recarpeting, to be done and was told I have to sign a new lease.  I have been on a month to month.  What te laws concerning my particular situation, and do I have any rights.
